Overage defenceman Tyler Hanchuck has expressed an interest in finishing his Ontario Hockey League career at home, sources have told SooToday.com. The hulking blueliner has played four seasons in the OHL, including the past year-and-a-half with the Barrie Colts, who obtained him in a January, 2001 trade with the Brampton Battalion. Known for his physical play and positive influence on a team, Hanchuck posted 2-13-15 totals and had 108 penalty minutes in 64 regular-season games with Barrie last season. He added another three goals, six points and 41 PIM in 20 playoff games. It's not known how much interest Greyhound head coach/director of hockey operations John Vanbiesbrouck has in Hanchuck at this time. Thus far, Vanbiesbrouck and the Hounds have committed to just one overage -- left winger Adam Chapman, who scored 22 goals with the Ottawa 67s last season. Chapman was obtained by the Hounds for a fifth-round pick earlier this summer. Regarding the possible acquisition of Hanchuck, Vanbiesbrouck was unavailable for comment.
