NEWS RELEASE

SOO GREYHOUNDS

For the second time in less than a week, Soo Greyhounds GM Kyle Raftis is pleased to announce a commitment to the program with the signing of Keeghan Howdeshell.

Keegan was originally a 10th round selection of the Hounds in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection.

Over the past three seasons, Howdeshell has played with the Muskegon Lumberjacks in the USHL as well as two years with the U.S. National Development Program where he had previously committed to Ferris State University in 2014.

“We are very excited to bring Keeghan onboard with our program. Keeghan possesses great speed and strength which allows him to be a dynamic two-way player who will compliment our group of forwards nicely. His time playing in the U.S National Development program makes him no stranger to competing at the highest level on an international stage," stated Raftis.

"In speaking with Keeghan, he didn’t take his decision to de-commit from Ferris State lightly. He is excited about joining our program and the group that we are putting together for the upcoming season. We are looking forward to getting started with Keeghan and the rest of the group at training camp next Tuesday."

Last season (2016-17) with the Lumberjacks, the 6.0, 200-lb forward appeared in 49 games where he recorded 9 goals and 15 assists (24 points) in 49 regular season games played before notching 2 points in four post-season games.

Howdeshell holds extensive international experience as the Brighton, Mich. native has competed in 2016 IIHF Under-18 Men’s World Championship, 2016 Under-18 Five Nations Tournament, 2015 Under-18 Four Nations Tournament, 2015 Under-17 Five Nations Tournament, 2014 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge and 2014 Under-17 Four Nations Tournament.

“I’m extremely excited to be a part of a great organization and I’m looking forward to getting up there and getting things going,” commented Howdeshell.

Howdeshell will take to the ice in Sault Ste. Marie for the start of Training Camp 2017 this coming Tuesday.
