As a multi-sport athlete at Korah, much of Nik Gervasi’s free time is spent as a member of one of the many sports programs available at the school.

Currently a member of the Colts senior football team, the Grade 12 student has also competed in hockey, track and field, badminton, and soccer.

In a new segment here at SooToday, here’s what Gervasi had to say when we caught up with him to get his thoughts on a variety of subjects.

Q: What is your first sports memory?

A: It would probably have to be all of the hockey tournaments I played in as a child. All of the overtime games, those are the best memories I have.

Q: What other sports are you interested in that people wouldn’t expect?

A: Definitely badminton. Just since Grade 9. I tried it first in gym class and then I liked it so when badminton season came, I went to tryouts and I’ve been playing it since.

Q: If you could be the NFL commissioner for a day, what changes would you make to the sport?

A: With most games being on Sunday’s, maybe having one game every night of the week and then the rest of them on Sunday. Then you could always watch a game at night. I’m always looking forward to the Thursday night game or the Monday nightery so it would be nice to have a game every night.

Q: What non-sports career are you interested in and why?

A: A paramedic. I think it would be a great career for me because I’m in great shape. It’s a really interesting job. I think it’s for me. I like helping people.

Q: Who are three people, dead or alive, that you would like to have dinner with and why?

A: One would be rap artist, Lil Wayne. I’ve always loved his music. He’s one of my idols. Another would be (NHL great) Bobby Orr. I’m sure he would have great things to say. He’s a wise guy and an author. Maybe Donald Trump. That would be an interesting dinner.

Q: What person, living or dead, do you admire most and why?

A: Any athlete who is really good off the field. Like J.J. Watt. He’s always giving back to his community like during the hurricanes. He’s given so much money. He’s a celebrity but he’s spent time helping out the less fortunate.

Q: What’s the most important life lesson you’ve learned?

A: Having trust can go a really long way. If you trust (another person), you have confidence in them.

Q: What’s something people would be surprised to learn about you?

A: People can be intimidated by me but I do have a soft side.

Q: If you could have any super power, what would it be?

A: To be able to fly.

Q: If you were stranded on an island, what three things would you bring with you?

A: Obviously food and water, and I would need something to do so maybe my cell phone.
