Sault Ste. Marie’s Brad Jacobs and his Canadian team dropped an extra end decision to Scotland Monday at the 2025 World Men's Curling Championship in Moose Jaw, Sask.
The loss came in a game that saw the Jacobs rink battle back from a pair of deficits in the game.
The Jacobs rink, which includes third Marc Kennedy, second Brett Gallant, and lead Ben Hebert, fell behind 3-1 early after the Scottish rink, skipped by Bruce Mouat, scored three in the second end to pull ahead before Jacobs followed that up with a pair in the third end.
After Mouat blanked four consecutive ends, the Scottish skip took the lead again as Scotland scored one in the eighth before stealing one in the ninth to take a 5-3 lead.
Jacobs proceeded to scored a pair in the 10th end to force the extra end, where Scotland picked up the win.
“I think that we struggled early with the ice conditions,” said Jacobs in a media scrum posted by Curling Canada. “We saw a little bit more curl out there, which is really nice by the way; it’s been pretty straight and fast. Today we saw a little bit more curl and we also saw the brooms doing a little bit more work, especially on helping rocks curl. So we’ll learn from that. We didn’t have the greatest first five ends but we had a really strong second half and I think that as long as we can carry that into tomorrow we’ll be in a good headspace.”
The Jacobs rink, which sits at 3-1 through three days in Moose Jaw, will play a pair of games on Tuesday.
Jacobs will face Sweden's Niklas Edin in the morning draw before wrapping up the day against Italy's Joel Retornaz in the evening draw.
