Action continued to heat up last Friday night as local stock cars took to the track at the Kinross Speedway.
Nick Guerriero was the lone Sault, Ontario driver to take a checkered flag with a win in the late model four car dash.
The following is a complete release of action provided by the Kinross Speedway's Gerry Liscumb Jr.:
**************************************************** Cryderman and Clawson claim 1st feature wins of the season
We're just three nights into the 2004 season, and the shows continue to get better and better each week at the Kinross Speedway.
The most recent 4-in-1 show brought to you by Nyberg Lettering & Embroidery would not disappoint the very appreciative crowd on this sunny and warm evening.
Factory Stock qualifying would exemplify the parody this division is seeing for the second consecutive season.
With a mere three-tenths of a second (0.30) separating your top 7 qualifiers, Jerry Ball would set the top time for the third week in a row, this week coming in under the lights in 15.480 seconds.
Strong, Michigan native Kevin Johnson (37) would win the four-car dash while Josh Ware (7) would take home the checker flag in the 10-lap heat race.
With 8 very strong cars set to take the green flag, Dave Devine (4) and Cecil Piche (88) would pace the field to the start.
A pass down the back straightaway would give Piche the lead on lap 1 while division rookie Jared Nightlinger (48) moved to his back bumper from the 4th starting position.
Those two drivers would battle for the next 8 laps before a caution flag on lap 9 would see Pee Wee Fountain (50) heading pit side early via the services of Joe's Towing.
On the restart Johnson would move up to 2nd with Ware now occupying third.
Your top three positions would remain unchanged until just past the halfway mark when Johnson would reel in the "Pink Panther" and overtake the 88 car for the lead.
That lead would not be relinquished as Johnson marked his 2nd feature win of the season followed by Piche, Ball, Ware and Paul Fox (36) rounding out the top 5.
Nineteen cars would qualify in the Four Cylinder Division with John Mayer (9) setting the fastest lap with a time of 18.110 seconds. He would later back that up with a win in the four-car dash.
Will Odbert (23) took the checker flag in his first race of the season, Australian Pursuit #1, while Chris Brady would capture the divisions 2nd Pursuit race.
Aaron Lemay (10) and Brady were victorious in heat race 1 and 2 respectively.
Cary Orsborne (69) and Odbert set the pace as they brought the full field to the start of their 25-lap feature event.
Orsborne would withstand the field for the opening lap before handing the top spot to fellow rookie, Ken Nayback (43) for laps 2 and 3.
By lap 4 Brady, who had started 13th, was your new leader only to be followed closely by fast-qualifier Clawson.
The Pickford, MICHIGAN native took his start from deep in the field (16th) took the lead on lap 7.
Over the next 18 laps your top 2 cars would battle it out lap-in, lap-out while maneuvering around the huge field on the ¼ mile.
Three and four-wide passing would highlight this feature event as the check flag would fall after 25-laps of caution free racing.
Clawson would grab his 1st feature win of the season followed by Brady, James Thompson (8), Nayback, Eric Sherlund (79), John Mayer (9), Preston Nightlinger (48), Lemay, Orsborne and Odbert capping off the top 10.
Ray Golladay Jr. (20) was the fastest Pure Stock driver on this night, powering his Olds to a lap time of 16.760 seconds.
Bill Cryderman (61) won the four-car dash while Larry Young Sr. (26) would take home the 10-car Australian Pursuit.
Barry Glenn (55), in a borrowed car, would capture heat race #1 while Larry Young Jr. (25) would win heat #2.
In an unfamiliar scene, Ben Huyck (28) and Glenn would make-up your front row for the start of their division's final race of the night.
Huyck, who had a different engine under the hood following week 2 problems, jumped out to lead until Glenn would power the high side of the speedway to the lead on lap 4.
One lap later the first-of-two cautions would fall on the ¼ mile as Ray Golladay (22), Paul Little (24) and Golladay Jr. would all tag the rear.
On the restart Glenn begin to be pressured by the likes of Randy Miller (73) and Bill Cryderman (61).
By lap 15 Cryderman took his 8th starting position into the lead but the pressure would be put on him as on lap 20, Golladay Jr. had made his way through the pack and up to 2nd.
The final laps would see these two drivers challenge each other as they crossed the line side-by-side with Cryderman narrowly edging Golladay Jr. for his first feature win of the season.
Golladay Jr. and Glenn would round out the final podium positions.
Dave Vansloten (33) was fast-qualifier in the Late Model division as the lone driver to break into the 13-second bracket, this week with a time of 13.780 seconds.
Soo, Ontario driver Nick Guerriero (4) won the Four Car Dash while Vansloten grabbed the 10-lap heat race.
The 25-lap feature would be minus Todd Jackson (21), as the hometown driver would see ignition problems put him on the trailer early, while Cedarville, MICHIGAN pilot Sam Bohling would make his first appearance of 2004.
Dennis Aho (75) and Tim Aho (27) made up row one when the green flag dropped. T. Aho grabbed the lead on lap 1 while Mark Howland (59) wasted no time getting into the second place position.
These two drivers would run nose-to-tail until the 1/3 way mark of the race when Vansloten would take his final starting position to the front while brining Howland up to 2nd right with him.
The two Rudyard, Michigan drivers would have a heated battle over the remaining laps but Vansloten would hold on for his 2nd Late Model feature win of 2004. Howland, T. Aho, Guerriero and D. Aho were your top 5.
In the final race of the evening, the Powder Puff was brought onto the ¼ mile for their 10-lap feature.
The 6 brave ladies would put on a great show to the fans but in the end Shavon Golladay would take the early lead in the standings behind the wheel of her brother's #20 Pure Stock.
This coming Friday, June 11th is Valvoline Cup Night at the Kinross Speedway. It will feature a full 4-in-1 show of stock car racing along with Jr. Announcer night at the track.
Qualifying is at 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 7:30 p.m.
