For the second time this season, the Sault Female Pee Wee Wildcats brought home the gold medal.
In tournament action in Whitby, the Wildcats played to five consecutive wins including a 3-1 championship game victory over Kingston.
Brianne Veale led the Wildcats with two goals in the championship game. Katie Pietrzakowski added the other goal while assists went to Olivia Pavoni, Jessica D'Angelo, Morgan Tersigni and Courtney Charette.
The Wildcats opened the tournament with two consecutive shutouts and allowed just one goal in each of the next three games. Kelsey Bentrovato recorded both shutouts in net.
In semi-final action, Veale scored twice while Pavoni and Jasmine Roy added one each in a 4-1 win over Etobicoke to advance to the final. Tersigni chipped in with two assists.
In earlier play, the Wildcats opened with a 3-0 win over Glouchester as Tersigni scored twice, Veale added another and Roy recorded two assists. The team followed with a 2-0 win over Petrolioa on goals by Pavoni and Roy before hammering hometown Whitby 6-1 on goals by Tersigni, with two, Pavoni, Pietrzakowski, Shannon MacInnis and Roy.
*** SWIMMERS CROWNED TOP FISH:
Zana Tracy and Steven Lee both emerged with a perfect record of five wins in five races for the Sault Ste. Marie Aquatic Club at the Top Fish Swim Meet for swimmers under 10 in Valley East on the weekend.
Tracy accomplished the feat in the under-eight girls division while Lee claimed victory in the under-eight boys group.
The eight-and-under relay team captured the gold medal on performances by Christopher Carlyle, Sara Matthews and Erin Lee. Maggie Kirkwood, Ryan Griswold and Tracy teamed up to captured the nine and 10 year-old medley relay while the race's bronze medal winners were Rayne Fisher, Jack Carlyle and Lee.
Individually, Matthews captured four second place finishes while Christopher Carlyle won two second place ribbons and three third place finishes.
