The Soo North Stars have quaranteed themselves a berth the quarterfinal round of the Sudbury Big Nickel Major AAA Hockey Tournament.
On Friday, the North Stars secured a tie and a win to improve their record to 2-0-1 in the tournament.
To open the day, the North Stars played to a 0-0 draw with the Nepean Raiders as Thomas Gravelines recorded the shutout.
In the night cap, Derrek Coccimiglio scored twice to lead the Soo past the Brampton Battalion 4-1. Mike Rivard and Brett Perlini added singles while Jacob Chiblow chipped in three assists.
On Saturday, the North Stars will play Oshawa Don Cherry's at 5 p.m. and then turnaround and play their quarterfinal match at 9:30 p.m. against an opponent yet to be determined.

The Soo Thunder, meanwhile, sit with a loss and two ties through Friday in the major Bantam division.
In their opening game on Thursday, Tyler Hawdon scored twice and added an assist while Brett Thompson scored once and set up another in a 3-3 tie with the Toronto Red Wings.
On Friday, the Thunder dropped a 6-2 decision to the Whitby Wildcats before playing the Huron-Perth Lakers to a 2-2 draw.
Matthew Amadio and Josh Cerasuolo scored in the loss to Whitby while Dereck Hurley and Mickey Sartoretto provided the goals in the tie with the Lakers.

Soo National Supply has a 1-1 record following two games to open the tournament on Friday.
Kyle Paat scored the lone Soo goal in a 1-0 win over the Halton Hurricanes while Anthony Butorac scored in a 4-1 loss to the Thunder Bay Kings.
On Saturday, National Supply faces the Toronto Marlboros at 2 p.m. and the Quinte Red Devils at 6:30 p.m.
