Sault College hockey, basketball teams fall short this weekend

Here is how the Sault College hockey and basketball teams fared on their travels this weekend

Women's hockey:

The Sault College Cougars Women’s hockey team travelled to Adrian Michigan to compete against Adrian College Bulldogs for a pair of exhibition games. The Cougars, with a 2-4-0 Collegiate level exhibition record this season, knew they were coming in to compete against the top Central Collegiate Women’s Hockey Association (CCWHA) team. They are 11-1-1 in their season so far.

The Cougars took home a 6-3 win on Jan. 26, thanks to goals from Mackenzie Nadeau, Taylor Nadeau, Chelsea Dokis, Ashleigh Wiwchar and Kaitlyn Lambert-Mousseau. On Jan. 27, the Cougars won 4-0, with goals by Jenny King, Kaitlyn Lambert-Mousseau and Megan Turcotte.

The team's next games are Feb. 22 and 23 at Central Michigan University, who currently hold the 6th place spot in the Division 2 CCWHA.

Women's basketball:

The Women's basketball team, meanwhile, travelled to London, Ontario to compete against the Fanshawe College Falcons, who are ranked number 2 nationally.

Jan. 26, the Cougars lost 79-28 to the Falcons. Cassdy Sabourin scored a game high 16 points and 9 rebounds. On Jan. 27, the Cougars fell 93-33, with Sabouring shining again with a team high of 12 points and a game high of 11 rebounds.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend as they host the Humber Hawks at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2.

Men's basketball:

The Sault College Cougars Men’s Basketball team also travelled to London to compete against the Fanshawe Falcons. On Jan. 26, Jimmy Thai was able to contribute 16 points in the Cougars effort, but ultimately, they lost 121-55. On Jan. 27, the Cougars again lost 101-57. Kevon Clarke scored a game high of 19 points, pulled down 13 rebounds and had 2 blocks.

The Cougars are back in action this weekend as they host the Humber Hawks on Saturday, Feb. 2.
