On a day when their junior counterparts earned a Northern Ontario Secondary School Athletics (NOSSA) title, the Korah Colts senior football team moved one step closer to earning one of their own on Saturday.
The Colts beat Sudbury’s Lively Hawks 52-23 on Saturday evening at Superior Heights.
With that, the team will move on to host the NOSSA senior football final next weekend in Sault Ste. Marie.
The Colts got on the board early as Tristan O’Flynn ran the ball in from 12 yards out just under four minutes into the contest. Mateo Perri added the convert to make it 7-0 Korah.
The touchdown run opened things up for the Colts, who would run the ball for over 500 yards in the victory.
Nik Gervasi led the way with 179 yards on 10 carries. The day included touchdown runs of 13, 14, and 67 yards for the veteran.
O’Flynn had 172 yards rushing on 11 carries and a pair of majors.
Tyler Brechin pitched in with a touchdown run of nine yards among his eight carries.
Korah’s other touchdown came by way of the pass as Jordan Robinson-Wright hit Noah Grasley for an 18-yard touchdown pass.
Robinson-Wright finished the day with 73 yards passing on five completions for the Colts.
Perri kicked seven converts along with a 22-yard field goal.
Lively’s touchdowns came by way of the passing game as quarterback Nicholas Rideout hit Tyler Bell for a 26-yard major, Lucas Howland on a two-yard pass, and Nicholas Witzke on a 13-yard pass.
Rideout finished the day with 234 yards passing on 17 completions and also kicked a pair of converts along with a 23-yard field goal.
Witzke caught nine passes for 96 yards for Lively.
