Special teams pace Thunderbirds

Special teams were the difference for the Soo Thunderbirds on Thursday night.

The Thunderbirds scored three times on the power play in a 5-2 road win over the Rayside-Balfour Canadians in Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action.

Matthew Bazarin paced the Thunderbirds with two goals and an assist.

Avery Rebek added a goal and an assist while Steven Bellini assisted on a pair of goals. 

Lucas Theriault and Nick Smith also scored for the Thunderbirds.

Goaltender Colin Ahern stopped 36 shots.

Rayside goaltender David Bowen made 34 saves. 

Evan Krassey and Jett Leishman scored for the Canadians.

The Thunderbirds will take an 11-3-0-0 record into action on Saturday night at home against the Hearst Lumberjacks. Puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre is set for 7 p.m.
