The Sault Steelers are off to a solid start through a pair of Northern Football Conference regular season games.

After picking up a win on the road in their opener last weekend against the Sudbury Spartans, the Steelers swept the home-and-home series between the two squads with a 10-1 victory over Sudbury on Saturday night at Rocky DiPietro Field.

The Steelers opened up a lead through one quarter and it turned into all the scoring in the contest.

The locals got on the board with 7:28 to go in the opening quarter when Alanzo Clarke punched the ball in on a one-yard touchdown run. Brady Smith kicked the convert on the play to make it a 7-0 game.

After the Spartans got on the board with 16 seconds to go in the opening quarter thanks to a rouge, Smith ultimately capped off the scoring in the game with a 34-yard field goal in the dying seconds of the quarter.

Clarke finished the day with 95 yards rushing on 15 carries.

Steve Hiiemaa ran the ball 13 times for the Steelers for 35 yards on the ground.

Steelers quarterback Ryan Yost completed 10 of 25 pass attempts for 98 yards in the game.

Brock Hoover caught four passes for the locals for 54 yards in the game.

Offensively for the Spartans, Nicholson Christmas caught three passes for 26 yards and ran the ball eight times for 24 yards.

Quarterback Nick Rideout completed five of 14 passes for 62 yards for Sudbury in the loss.

Defensively for Sudbury, Bryce Desabrais had 10 tackles while Andrew St. Amair and Benjamin Cacciotti had six each. Joe Shyminski had five tackles and a sack for the Spartans.

The Steelers return to action next weekend on the road in Sarnia when they take on the winless Imperials on June 17.
