(ED. NOTE: SooToday.com begins its daily coverage of local sports with this story. Look for complete local coverage daily in this section.) Not all of the kinks have been ironed out but the Sault Storm begins its Northern Football Conference regular season tonight in North Bay against the Bulldogs. The Storm has had to overcome the cool weather and the indecision of some players as to whether they were going to play this season but head coach Barry Rushon reports that "all systems are now go." Rushon is looking forward to getting a look at rookie quarterback Tim Higgins under game conditions. The native of Boise, Idaho is a gifted athlete who also plays basketball for the Sault College Cougars of the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association. Higgins is expected to alternate with Seth Cond at the QB spot to start the season. Cond is normally a tight end and will also serve as a player/assistant to Rushon. The Storm received an unexpected bonus earlier in the week when running back Gary Sutton joined the team. The speedy Sutton played with the Storm in 1996 after an outstanding high school career at White Pines. Meanwhile, the home opener for the Storm will be on Sat. June 8 at 7 p.m. vs. the Markham Raiders at Rocky DiPietro Field.
