It was a road trip to forget for the Soo Thunderbirds.

The Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League’s West Division leaders dropped a 1-0 decision to the Timmins Rock on Sunday afternoon.

The Thunderbirds dropped two of three games on the weekend trip, which included a 6-3 win over the Cochrane Crunch on Saturday.

It was the second time in three games that the Thunderbirds were shut out after the team dropped a 3-0 to the Hearst Lumberjacks in the trip opener on Friday night.

Austin Holmes had the lone goal for the Rock in Sunday’s contest. The 18-year-old scored a power play goal midway through the second period.

Timmins goaltender Tyler Masternak made 18 saves for the shutout.

Colin Ahern made 25 saves for the Thunderbirds.

Next up for the Thunderbirds is a home game against the Rayside-Balfour Canadians on Nov. 10. Puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre is set for 7 p.m.
