Thunderbirds end road trip with loss

The Rayside-Balfour Canadians got a late goal to beat the Soo Thunderbirds on Sunday evening

In Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League action on Sunday evening, the Soo Thunderbirds dropped a 3-2 decision on the road to the Rayside-Balfour Canadians at Chelmsford Arena.

Matthew Belanger scored the game-winning goal with 3:20 to go in the third period, breaking a 2-2 at the time.

Nick Smith and Cam Findlay scored for the Thunderbirds while goaltender Ethan Racz stopped 32 shots.

Brady Maltais and Giordano Biondi had the other Rayside-Balfour goals.

Canadians goaltender Cameron Lamour stopped 22 shots.

The Thunderbirds next scheduled game is Dec. 7 at home against the Soo (Mich.) Eagles in a 7 p.m. puck drop at the John Rhodes Community Centre.

The team is also awaiting confirmation of a new date for their game scheduled for Nov. 27 against Rayside-Balfour. The game was postponed due to weather.
