The Soo Thunderbirds have clinched a Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League playoff berth.

The Thunderbirds extended their winning streak to eight games in the process with a 6-1 victory over the Elliot Lake Wildcats on Sunday evening in Elliot Lake in the process.

Lucas Theriault had two goals and an assist to pace the Thunderbirds offensively in Sunday’s victory.

Brady Caruso assisted on three Sault goals.

Brock Santa Maria, Tanner Mayne and Matthew Bazarin chipped in with a goal and an assist each for the Thunderbirds.

Noah Boman set up a pair of goals.

Spencer Van Tien also scored for the Thunderbirds.

William Anderson stopped 24 Elliot Lake shots.

Caleb Minns had the lone goal for Elliot Lake.

Wildcats goaltender Zion Miceli stopped 22 shots.

The Thunderbirds improve to 34-9-0-1 while Elliot Lake falls to 17-23-1-2.

The Thunderbirds return to action on Feb. 4 on the road in Blind River against the Beavers.
