It’s another hockey accolade for Sault Ste. Marie’s Marty Turco.

A decorated college hockey career at the University of Michigan has earned the 42-year-old a spot in the school’s 2017 Hall of Honor class.

Turco is one of seven former student-athletes to receive the honour.

Turco won a pair of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) titles during his four years as a goaltender at Michigan. He won titles in 1996 and 1998 while appearing in the Frozen Four every year while at Michigan.

He currently holds school records for career wins (127, also an NCAA record), career shutouts (15) and wins in a season (34 in 1995-96).

In four years at Michigan, Turco posted a 127-28-7 record and was a first team All-American in 1997, a year in which he was also named the Central Collegiate Hockey Association’s top goaltender. In his freshman season, Turco was named the CCHA rookie of the year.

In winning the national championship in 1998, Turco was named the tournament Most Outstanding Player.

Following his career at Michigan, Turco went on to play 543 games in the NHL with the Dallas Stars, Chicago Blachkawks, and Boston Bruins. He posted a career record of 275-167-26-40 with a 2.36 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.910.

A three-time NHL All-Star, Turco also suited up for Team Canada at the 2006 Olympics.
