Weather forces cancellation of high school semi-finals

With the winter storm that hit the area on Thursday, the High School Girls Basketball League was forced to reschedule their playoff semi-finals.

With the winter storm that hit the area on Thursday, the High School Girls Basketball League was forced to reschedule their playoff semi-finals.

With the local schools being closed on Thursday, the semi-final match-ups in both junior and senior will be played on Friday with the winners advancing into Saturday's City Championships.

On Friday, the St. Mary's Knights will host a pair of games as the second place Knights entertain the third place Korah Colts at 2 p.m. in senior action. The junior Knights will battle Mount St. Joseph College at 4:15 p.m.

At St. Basil, the undefeated St. Basil Saints will host the other senior semi-final against the fourth place Bawating Braves at 4:15 p.m.

In the other junior semi-final, Korah and St. Basil, which tied for second spot, will meet in a neutral court battle at Bawating beginning at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday's City Championship will be held at either St. Mary's or Korah. The juniors tip-off at 6 p.m. followed by the seniors at 7:30 p.m.

*** VETRIE FUNDRAISER:

A fund raising banquet for the Guy Vetrie Invitational Tournament, formerly the Sault Invitational, is being held Wednesday, November 26 at the Marconi Club. The doors open at 6 p.m. with the dinner to follow at 6:30 p.m.
