The weather has played a factor in a last-minute change in high school basketball action this weekend.

The annual Guy Vetrie Memorial Basketball tournament and its junior counterpart, the Norm Neilson Memorial Basketball Tournament, were set to tip off today locally but only the Vetrie tournament, which features senior teams, will go ahead as planned.

The junior tournament, which was revamped this year and renamed the Norm Nielson Tournament Showcase, will not happen this weekend because of the weather locally.

The Vetrie Tournament will still go ahead as planned with six teams, including all four local entries – Korah, St. Mary’s. Superior Heights, and White Pines.

In from out of town to compete will be Pickering and Sarnia Northern.

Action began this afternoon and was set to continue with a pair of evening games, both at Superior Heights.

At 6 p.m. Superior Heights was set to face Sarnia Northern while White Pines was set to face Pickering at 7:30 p.m.

The championship game is set for 7:30 p.m. on Saturday at Superior Heights.
