Week four in the local Women's Hockey League has been played with each team displaying the ability to win games.

Each of the league's eight teams has picked up at least a win through five games, no team is unbeaten and only six points separates the top from the bottom.

The following is a recap of games from week four in the WHL provided by Lorie Springall:

********************************************************** WEEK # 4 - January 25th & 26th

League parity has become quite obvious after four weeks of action in the WHL. Only six points separate first and eighth place.

A 3-2 win by Source for Sports quietly moved them into first place, just one point ahead of Palmer Paving. Skip's Kweok jumped out of last place and into a tie for fourth with a win and a tie while Country Way secured third place winning their third straight.

In Sunday's action, Skip's Kweok fell behind 5-2 to Algoma Insurance before breaking out in the third period with four unanswered goals to steal a 6-5 win. Joanne Pine led the way for Skip's with five goals. Joy Agawa scored the winner with just 1:10 left to play.

Rose Jones, Nancy O'Donnell and Jo-Ann Jones had two assists each while Rosalea Boissoneau earned one assist. Five different players scored for Algoma Insurance. Michelle Irwin, Julie Hodkinson, Laurie Laudadio, Sheree Wright and Theresa Glover each contributed. Glover and Donna May Sayers-Lariviere also had two assists. Single assists went to Hodkinson and Irwin.

In Sunday's other game, Investors Group handed Palmer Paving their first loss by a score of 4-1. Two goals each by Shelli Ubriaco and Ellen MacDougall gave Investors a 4-0 lead after two periods.

Goalie Sherry Collins' shut out bid was thwarted by Palmer's Lisa Case early in the third period with an unassisted effort. Ubriaco and MacDougall each added one assist as did teammates Cathy Toni and Lisa Rowlinson.

Penny Souliere, Stephanie Bean and Mona Jones each had a goal in Source for Sports' 3-2 win over Investors Group Monday night. Jones also had two assists and Maria Caputo one assist. Francine Floreani scored both Investors goals. Shelli Ubriaco had two assists and Ellen MacDougall one.

In another game, Natalie King's goal with just over a minute remaining gave Lafarge a 3-3 tie with Skip's Kweok. Rose Jones and Jo-Ann Jones put Kweok up 2-0 but Lafarge answered with goals from Brenda Swystun and Suzanne Dunn.

Joanne Pine gave Skip's a 3-2 lead halfway through the final frame but Beth Tetreault's winning face off set up King for the tying goal.

Tetreault earned two assists in the game while single assists went to Betty Buck and pick up player Trish Evans. Assists for Kweok went to Kyla Sewell (2), Brenda Sayers and Rose Jones.

In other games, Country Way defeated Algoma Insurance 5-1. Country Way's Sherry Boston not only scored her first career goal, but went on to complete a hat trick. Denise "Deeter" Goldade and Andrea Moraca also scored for the winners.

Brenda Frey and Christine Trivers each had two assists with singles going to Moraca and Krysten DiTommaso. Julie Hodkinson had Algoma's only goal with Jenny Sayers picking up an assist.

In the night's final game, Crawford's Canines and Palmer Paving battled to a 1-1 tie. After two scoreless periods, Lori Swan put Palmer up 1-0 early in the third with assists going to Lori Case and Jean Feagan. Palmer held the lead until Tanya Dowding's shorthanded breakaway goal tied the game for Crawford's with 2:25 remaining.

In an exciting final minute of play and with two Canines in the penalty box, the Paving Crew tried desperately to regain their lead but were unable to beat Crawford's goalie, Teri Bonnell.
