The Sault Ste. Marie Innovation Centre (SSMIC) today announced the first installment of The Business Accelerator Series with The Business Model: Revisited and Reinvented workshop to take place at the Delta Waterfront Hotel on October 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
SSMIC is helping to assist businesses at every stage of development - from generating a business model to commercialization to fine tuning your current market approach.
Hear from Jane Gertner of Strategic Mentor Group and Executive in Residence at VentureLAB, and Paul Rivett, Director of Client Services at VentureLAB.
Registration is $25 per workshop or $45 for the entire series (including all three workshops).
This workshop will benefit all business owners and entrepreneurs – whether just starting out or operating a current business and looking to identify new opportunities.

The Business Model: Revisited and Reinvented
October 9, 9 a.m. - 12:00 p.m.; Round table: 1:30 p.m. - 3:30 p.m.
- A business model explains how a company (at any stage) finds and serves customers profitably.
- The Business Model Canvas is a useful tool for designing, reviewing, and presenting business models.
- A new business model is only a theory. It needs to be validated and modified with customer and market feedback.
Jane Gertner of Strategic Mentor Group, and Executive in Residence atVentureLAB is in constant pursuit of strategic and operational excellence to position her clients for maximum competitive advantage.
She is a strong business generalist with hands on experience spanning from marketing/sales to executive management, raising capital and creating successful exits.
She initially trained at Unilever as a Global Marketer, and was President of an operating division of George Weston Ltd, where she executed a complete financial and operational turnaround, divesting the company at a significant multiple.
Jane is the Managing Partner of an SME consultancy, and serves on the Advisory Boards of several high growth entrepreneurial ventures.
She holds an MBA from the Rotman School of Management, and is Vice Chair of the school’s Alumni Board.
Over the last 3 years at VentureLAB, she has developed and delivered over 60 workshops for both their technology clients and for SME’s within York Region Partner network.
Paul Rivett is a former technology entrepreneur, launching Resonance Photonics in 1999 – a York Region fiber optic component manufacturer financed by venture capital.
Prior to this, he has over 20 years of management experience in commercial, operations and technology roles at multinational corporations including Alcatel, providing advanced photonic products to the Telecommunications, Medical, Avionic and Industrial markets around the world.
Paul is currently Director of Client Services at VentureLAB and is responsible for its entrepreneur development programs.
He has advised over a hundred technology companies on start-up and growth strategy.
Paul has an Engineering Physics degree from UBC, and an MBA from the University of Toronto.
