Algoma Steel Inc. today announced a donation of $10,000 to St. Vincent Place to support their Lunches for Learning program. Lunches for Learning provides children in the Sault Ste. Marie area who are food insecure with healthy meals.
The announcement is part of the Company's commitment to help the local community where it operates. Building a partnership with St. Vincent Place will help ensure that local students are not worrying about where their next meal will come from.
"With 1 in 5 children at risk of going to school hungry, the Lunches for Learning program is helping many families provide meals for their children so they can focus on learning instead of hunger,” Algoma Steel Chief Executive Officer Michael McQuade said. "People in our community sometimes need assistance and this is our way of giving back. We are proud to support this organization as they work to help put healthy food in local homes."
“We want to thank Algoma Steel for their generosity with this donation. This contribution will help us provide school-safe lunch food packages to the 100 families – 200 children – currently enrolled for the remainder of the calendar year. It also provides the comfort we need to expand the program, allowing us to serve an additional 30 more families currently on the waitlist.” said Nat Cicchelli, St. Vincent Place general manager.
