NEWS RELEASE
SAULT COLLEGE
***********************
Each year, Child and Youth Care week is recognized in the first week of May. Sault College is honoured to have the support of the Sault Ste. Marie Mayor and City Council in the official proclamation of May 1-5, 2023, as CYC week in the City of Sault Ste. Marie. This week is dedicated to raising awareness of the CYC field and recognizing the important work of CYC practitioners in our community and beyond.
Sault College offers a three-year CYC program and recognizes the crucial role that CYCPs play in transforming the lives of children, youth, and families who face adversity in the areas of mental health, behavioral concerns, social/emotional issues, developmental delays, addiction, trauma, and abuse.
“It is extremely meaningful to have this week proclaimed as CYC week in our community,” said Melanie Jones, CYC Professor. “In light of the rising number of children, youth, and families in distress in our community, we want to highlight the critical work that local CYCPs are doing in our schools, agencies, daycares, in residential care, and other areas. This proclamation is an excellent opportunity to raise awareness about the CYC field and the valuable work that CYCPs do in supporting the well-being of children, youth, and families.”
CYCPs follow best practice principles to provide support to families using therapeutic skills in counselling and group work with individuals and families in a variety of settings. They are bound by the ethical code of a caring profession established by the Ontario Association of Child and Youth Care.
We invite everyone in the community to join us in celebrating the contributions of CYCPs and the positive impact they have on the lives of children, youth, and families.
