NEW YORK — Edmonton Oilers star Connor McDavid has been named the NHL's first star of the week.
The 21-year-old put up five goals and 10 points across four games, highlighted by a four-point performance in a 6-2 win over Ottawa on Thursday, to overtake Tampa Bay Lightning winger Nikita Kucherov in the race for the Art Ross Trophy.
McDavid leads the league with 99 points in 76 games, ahead of Kucherov (95). Evgeni and Nathan MacKinnon are tied for third place with 92 points. The Oilers captain is looking to become the first player win the scoring title two years in a row since Jaromir Jagr won four straight from 1997 to 2000.
St. Louis Blues goaltender Jake Allen garnered the second star of the week after going 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals-against average and .961 save percentage to help the team move into the final playoff spot in the Western Conference.
Winnipeg Jets rookie Kyle Connor was the final star after putting in a pair of clutch performances, scoring overtime winners in the team's 2-1 win over the Los Angles Kings last Tuesday and its 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks on Friday.
The 21-year-old racked up six points, including four goals, to move into a tie with injured Canucks winger Brock Boeser for the rookie scoring lead with 29 goals.
