VANCOUVER — The Vancouver Canucks are switching up their goaltending staff, promoting one coach and moving another to a scouting role.

The club announced Wednesday that goalie coach and director of goaltending Ian Clark will work as a goalie scout and development coach after requesting a new role with the team.

Marko Torenius has been promoted from goalie coach of the American Hockey League's Abbotsford Canucks to the same role with the NHL team.

General manager Patrik Allvin says in a release that Clark "can no longer go on the ice regularly to do the things that have made him successful."

Clark has spent more than 15 years with the Canucks over two stints, and also worked for the Columbus Blue Jackets, Team Canada, the Florida Panthers and Sweden's MoDo Hockey club.

Torenius joined the AHL Canucks two seasons ago after working as a goaltending coach for SKA St. Petersburg and Sibir Novosibirsk, both of the Kontinental Hockey League.

"With (Clark) wanting something different at the hockey club, we were extremely fortunate to have Marko in the system and ready to take on the responsibility of becoming our new goaltending coach in Vancouver," Allvin said.

"(This) new role will fit with his expertise and having Clarkie going out to find and develop talent will be a big asset to the organization.”
