Passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 5, 2025 after one week in the Sault Area Hospital, at the age of 86.

Harold was the youngest son of the late Les and Florence Armstrong of Richards Landing, beloved brother of the late Keith Armstrong and the late Alan Armstrong and brother-in-law of the late Pauline (Grein) Armstrong and also Dolores (Bellon) Armstrong of Pembroke.

Uncle Harold will be missed by his nieces: Patti Durston, Jill Blackstone, Sue diBacco and Michelle Armstrong as well as his nephews, Ian and Todd Armstrong. He was predeceased by his niece, Kim Armstrong.

Harold worked diligently in the family business, Armstrong's Red and White in Richards Landing for many decades. He was also an avid historian, researching detailed stories of both family and the St. Joseph Island area. Much of this is recorded in his book, Tip Toe Down Memory Lane.

Harold took a deep interest in baseball, basketball and hockey but his dearest love was observing and investigating the great ships travelling the St. Mary's River by Sailors Encampment on St. Joseph Island. A favourite holiday was to book a room overlooking the Welland Canal where he could see many of these ships in quicker succession.

Harold enjoyed a vacation to Hawaii with Ian and a cruise along the Panama Canal. He took the opportunity before and after the cruise to visit friends in Florida and cousins in California.

In his later years especially, Harold enjoyed good friendships in his many wonderful neighbours on Catherine Street and in his cousin Colin Reid of the Soo.

The family is thankful for the wonderful care of doctors and nurses in the ICU.

Interment will take place at St. Joseph Township Cemetery later this month. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton and Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East, 705-7959-2522). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Matthew's Memorial Hospital. Condolences for the family and fond memories may be made at www.arthurfuneralhome.com
