(January 12, 1937-May 19, 2016) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jose de Medeiros Arruda peacefully at home with his family by his side on May 19, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Jose was born in Sao Miguel, Azores to Lionilde (Medeiros) and Hermano Arruda. Beloved husband and best friend of 51 years to Georgina da Estrela Cabral Arruda. Loving and caring father of Isabelle (Michael) Wheten, Carlo (Trish) Arruda and Sylvia Arruda. Proud Vavo of Jeremy, Cody, Matthew and Aaron Wheten and Jordan, Ryan, Cole and Ethan Arruda. Dear brother of Evaristo (late Dialina) Arruda, Hermano (Margarida) Arruda, Bernardino (Teresinha) Arruda, the late Conceicao (Alfredo) Cabral and Carlos (Ermelinda) Arruda. Brother in law of the late Josue (Cecilia) Cabral, the late Ileuterio Cabral and Joe (Maria) Medeiros. Respected and adored by many nieces and nephews throughout Ontario and British Columbia. He will be greatly missed by his dear friends, Anibal and Deolinda Barreiro and family.
Dad will always be remembered for his incredible smile, his energy and love of life. He enjoyed spending time in his garden, going to Tim Horton’s and Greyhound games with his best friend Anibal and of course, being “Vavo” to his eight grandsons. Even in his final weeks, Dad made every effort to attend his grandsons’ hockey games, football practices and theatre performances.
