Peacefully passed away at Extendicare Maple View with family by her side on Thursday, April 24, 2025, in her 100th year. She is now reunited with her beloved husband Michele. Cherished mother of Tony Avati (Pina) and Ladia Trovarello (Marcel). Proud Nonna of Michael Avati (Alyssa), Steven Avati (Sara), Ethan Chartrand (Haley), Owen Chartrand and Olivia Chartrand (Alex). Predeceased by her parents Guglielmo Calfa and Ortenzia Marano. Sister of the late Matilda Calfa, late Antonetta Barbiero (late Mario), late Pasquale Calfa (Maria), late Gino Calfa (Nella), late Aurelio Calfa (Erminia) and Enzo Calfa (LuAnn). Daughter-in-law of the late Giuseppe Avati and the late Lucrezia Burgia. Sister-in-law of the late Vincenzo Avati (late Annina), late Natalina Molinaro (late Tommaso) and the late Giuseppina Bonacci (late Vittorio). She will be fondly remembered by her many nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mom loved reading her Italian magazines and books, sewing (often making her own dresses), gardening, baking (she made the best bread) and great Italian cooking. She also spent many hours knitting and watching TV continually asking “cosa hanno detto?”. But she especially loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Friends and family are invited to attend a Funeral Mass at St. Gregory’s Church on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 12:00 noon. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to the St. Gregory’s Church Building Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.
