(March 17, 1941 – December 31, 2016) – With sorrow, our family announces the sudden passing of Roy Mervyn Ayers at the age of 75. Cherished husband to his love of more than 30 years, Pam (nee Maki). Dear father of Elizabeth, Esther, Roben, Elpidio (Sarah), Ana and Leandro (Aaron). Grandfather of Zara and Ezra. Great grandfather of Rhea, Maximus and Mason. Despite a short time together, Gramps made many wonderful memories with his grandson Ezra. Born and raised at the family homestead in Orillia, Ontario, Roy often made the trip to visit his beloved mother Edna (late Gilchrist) and his adored sisters: Marion Brown (Jerry), Lorna Sommers (Ron), Helen Ayers-Vander Welle (Abe), Norma Harvie (late Randy) and Margaret Conway (Glen). Loved brother-in-law of Lynn Maki from Cremona, Alberta, late Linda Shewfelt (Doug), Wendy Dumais (Ray), Wendel Maki, Tim Maki, Gary Maki and Tammy Comegna (Art) all of Sault Ste. Marie. He will be sorely missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and dear friends. Roy was a faithful, hard-working man who could always be counted on for a warm smile, hearty laugh and a wise word. Family and friends may join the Celebration of Roy’s Life on Sunday, January 8, 2017 from 2-5 pm at the Echo Bay Community Hall (257 Church St). A special thanks to the EMS and SAH staff, especially Dr. Evans. Memorial contributions to the Canadian Diabetes Association would be appreciated. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
