1961 – 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of John Baranyi Jr., who passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at St. Joseph's General Hospital in Elliot Lake, Ontario, at the age of 63.
John was Connie Berard's beloved partner and the former spouse of Christine Kilgour. He was a devoted father to Anna Baranyi (Brandon), David Baranyi, and the late Eli Kilgour. Cherished grandfather of Kyle, Ruby, and Griffin. He will be deeply missed by his brothers, Ernie and Steve (Bonita), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
Born and raised in Elliot Lake, John later moved to the Perth area, where he raised his family. He dedicated his career to green and sustainable initiatives, owning and operating businesses that reflected his passion for a healthier, greener planet.
John found joy in the simple pleasures of life — tending his garden, reading, yoga practice and contributing to his community. He also proudly served as a volunteer firefighter in Elliot Lake, exemplifying his lifelong commitment to helping others.
John’s kind spirit, sharp mind, and deep convictions will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
The family would like to thank Dr.Debortoli, Dr. Purzner, Dr. Stirling, and all St. Joseph’s General Hospital staff for their kindness and care. Also, thank you to the special nurses from Bayshore.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday June 14, 2025 at 2pm from the Hampton Inn Maple room in Elliot Lake. Interment to follow at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that memorial donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, St. Joseph's Foundation of Elliot Lake or to an organization of your choice in John’s memory.
