It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Deloris Barbarie peacefully at Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Sunday, July 30, 2017 after a very hard fought, year-long battle with ALS. Beloved wife, travel companion and best friend of Larry for forty-six years. Adored Mother and Gramma of Amy Barbarie, Jennifer and Chris Tranberg (Delaney and Tristen), Aaron Barbarie (Allison Storozuk), Hannah and Aariana. Very special “Mother-in-Law” and Gramma Dee to Michelle and Dave, Harlee, Ben, Kianna and baby Lincoln. Daughter of Donelda Steinburg (late Delmar). Much loved sister Dianne Ambeault (Mike Piccolo), Donna Martin (Jim Wilson), Dale Fortier (Jerry), Delmar Steinburg (Bev Herrington) and Debbie Steinburg (Gil Tournier). Daughter-in-law of the late Leonard and Rita Barbarie. Sister-in-law of Derrick (Lyn), Mark (Mariette), Greg (Julie), Randy (Brenda), Stacey, Michelle Bell (Cory). Special niece, best friend and camping partner of Gary and Annie Swire. Very special Auntie Dee to dozens of nieces and nephews and will be especially missed by the families of Peter and Patti Ambeault, Lisa and Jay Whalen and Ryan and Crystal Steinburg. Left to mourn are her close friends Vivienne Cote, Val and Roger Phillips. Deloris had a love of beachcombing and rock picking and spent many years teaching us how to find the rare Petoskey Stone or her favorite Lake Superior agates. She passed that love of rock picking down to many and her legacy will live on forever! “May you always have a little sand in your shoe and a rock in your pocket”. A private family service will be held. Friends and family are invited to gather for a Celebration of Life on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5 pm until 8 pm at The Pavilion (Water Tower Inn). In lieu of flowers memorial contributions made to ALS Canada or ARCH in Deloris’s honour would be appreciated by the family. The family would like to thank doctors Beck, Kucher and Turnbull, the staff at ARCH, the Bayshore nurses (Brandy, Marianne, Susan, Michelle, Marnie, Steph, Libby) for their amazing care and compassion shown during Deloris’s fight. A very special thank you to Rita Mannarino for her guidance and support during this time. You will probably never know how much we appreciate you. Words can never express our gratitude for all of you.
“God looked around his garden and found an empty space. Then He looked down upon this earth and saw your tired face. He put his arms around you and lifted you to rest. God’s garden must be beautiful. He only takes the best.”
