It is with great sadness that we announce that Theda Barber, age 98, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at the FJ Davey Home. Theda was born on May 10, 1917 in Sault Ste Marie, Ontario. She was the daughter of the late Thomas John Vanscoy and the late Elizabeth Theresa Walter. Theda went to Sault Technical and Commercial High School where she excelled in typing, handwriting and spelling. Her handwriting was impeccable. She loved playing the piano and the spoons. She was so well loved by everyone. Always soft spoken and had a heart of gold. Theda was predeceased by her daughter Sharon Elizabeth in 1952 at the age of 7. She is survived by her children John (Patti) Masson of Charlevoix, Michigan, Gerald Masson of SSM, Robert Masson (Mary) of Vancouver Island, Katherine Slezak (Peter of Winnipeg and Teri Masson of Winnipeg. She will be missed by her grandchildren Rob Masson (Suzanne) of Surrey, BC, Sheri Masson of Surrey, Vicki (Bill) Valentine of Indiana, Leesa (Alex) McCready of Neebish Island, MI, Claire Stott (Chris) of Calgary, Paul Masson (Raquel) of Ottawa, Liza Korol (James) of Calgary, Jennifer (Dennis) Clark of Calgary and Mackenzie Masson of Winnipeg. She is also survived by many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Theda was predeceased by her siblings Isabell Hounsell (Murray), Theresa “Bea” Bolton (Chester), Della Dunne (William), Thomas (Mignonne) Vanscoy, twins Kathleen (Marty) Yukich and Walter Vanscoy and Harry (Gertrude) Vanscoy. A private family service followed by cremation will be taking place. The entire family would like to thank the staff at the FJ Davey Home especially those in Driftwood 1. They were so kind and thoughtful to Mom during her many years with them and even more so towards the end. A special thank you to Louise who came to visit her weekly as well as Mom’s “other daughter” Chris Werner and very special friend Arlene Eddy. Mom loved you all so very much. A private family memorial service will be held at the FJ Davey Home Chapel in accordance with Mom’s wishes. Memorial donations in her memory can be made directly to your charity of choice.
