It is with great affection and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of George Nicolae Barbita, a beloved son, nephew, and friend, who left this world too soon on April 16, 2025, in Sault Ste Marie, ON. George, a kind and gentle soul known for his friendliness and generosity, was born on September 17, 1980, in Toronto, ON, to his loving mother, Dolores Barbita. George was born George Ashton Nickerson; then legally changed to George Nicolae Barbita to honor his maternal grandfather & uncle who were there for him in his early years.

Affectionately known to his friends and family as "George", he spent his later years in Brampton, ON, where he attended local schools and developed his skills in carpentry.

George’s love for life extended beyond his professional endeavors. He was given a dying Cane Corso puppy and sought a vet that helped save her, naming her Prada. His patience and gentle approach allowed him to connect with animals in a way that was truly remarkable. George also found joy in the great outdoors, often seen riding his bicycle along scenic trails.

An active individual, George was known in the local community for his skills as a dart player and a pool shark, with a friendly but competitive spirit. His love for games was not confined to the physical, as he was also an enthusiastic computer gamer and liked puzzles. When not engaged in one of his many activities, George could be found lost in the pages of a book; the latest in hand a Stephen King novel: "Bentley Little".

George’s presence was a light in the lives of those who knew him. His aunts, Gertrude and Joanne and uncle Nick Barbita, cousins James Hardy, Andrew Hardy, Allen Pierce, his half brother, Jason Yonnick, whom he recently connected with and wanted to meet, and many others I did not name will fondly remember his joy in their company & friends around him. They, along with his mother and his many friends, will miss his companionship and his kind-hearted nature.

The void left by George’s absence will be felt deeply, but the memories he created will continue to bring smiles to the faces of those who were fortunate enough to really know him. He lived his life with a genuine love for others, a trait that endeared him to many and ensured that he will be remembered with love and admiration.

As we bid farewell to George Nicolae Barbita, we celebrate the time we had with him and the countless ways he enriched our lives. His spirit shining kindness, friendliness, and gentleness will remain an inspiration to us all. George's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the simple joys of life – a legacy that will be cherished and honoured by all who were touched by his presence.

Rest in Power, dear George. Your journey on this earth may have concluded, but the impressions you made will forever be held in our hearts.

As per George's request, he will be cremated and a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Milton, Ontario. He will rest at Milton Evergreen Cemetery with his maternal Grandfather George and Grandmother Maria Carmela (nee Borg) Barbita.

Donations can be made in his honor at any Humane Society.
