BARKER, Pamela Helen Ann (nee Rubie)

In loving memory of Pamela Helen Ann Barker (nee Rubie) who passed away on Monday, December 26, 2016 at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice at the age of 88. Beloved wife of the late Christopher Barker. Loving mother of Andrew (wife Meyon) of Toronto, Ann-Marie (husband Calvin), and Jane (husband Paul) of Sault Ste. Marie. Proud Nana to John (wife Katlyn), Benjamin (fiancé Allannah), Pamela, Augustus and Peter.  Great Nana to Julian.  Dear daughter of the late Cyril and Cecilia Rubie of England. Predeceased by brothers Michael and Peter Rubie. Pam was born in Brighton, England, and immigrated to Sudbury, Ontario in 1957.  She worked as a Lab Technologist at the Sudbury General Hospital and the Algoma Sanatorium until the mid 1980’s. She moved to Sault Ste. Marie in 2007. Pam was very active in the Sudbury community.  She was on the Board of Directors for the local Community Credit Union.  She volunteered at the Sudbury Food Bank and the Women’s Crisis Help Line.  She was a founding member of the Sudbury South Side Seniors Club. She was an avid reader of crime and mystery novels, and enjoyed playing bridge and euchre at the Steelton Senior Citizens’ Centre and the Senior Citizens' Drop-In Centre. Pam was an amazing cook and famous for her butter tarts and trifle pudding. She was very talented with her hands and created many pieces for her family including refinishing furniture, quilting, making pottery, and knitting – there wasn’t anything she wouldn’t try. Pam was an intelligent woman who kept current with the news of the day. She was a very formidable and principled person who always made an impression.  Pam had a tremendous sense of humour and took lot of teasing from her son, sons-in-law and grandchildren and always in good stride. She was the best Mum ever and will be dearly missed by all her Lambies. Our family wants to express their gratitude to CCAC, Dr. Mohammadi, the SAH Emergency Team, the Sault Paramedics and Dr. Shwartz.  We are so grateful to have a facility like ARCH in our community of Sault Ste. Marie. The volunteers and staff at ARCH were so devoted. They not only took care of our Mum, they took care of our entire family. In keeping with Pam's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service.
