June 2, 1941 – March 28, 2025.

It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we share the passing of Mary Ruth Beaupre (née Murray), known simply as Ruth to all who loved her.

Born on June 2, 1941 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Ruth was the eldest of 15 children— a role she embraced with a fierce sense of responsibility and devotion.

In Halifax, as a spirited young woman, Ruth met the love of her life, James “Jim” Beaupre, a handsome navy sailor, on the dance floor of a local club. Sparks flew, and soon after, the two were married. Together, they built a full and vibrant life in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, raising five children: Cathy Nicolle, Barbara Beaupre (Louis Pagnotta), Lori Notte (Michael Dovigi), Steven Beaupre (Kathy), and Jim Beaupre (Tracy). Though Ruth and Jim eventually parted ways, the elegance and joy they brought to every jive and spin on the dance floor left an impression on all who had the pleasure of watching them.

Ruth’s love for her family was boundless. She was the heart of the Beaupre home… a home with an open-door policy, where many friends and relatives found comfort, a warm meal, and a place to belong. Her generosity and laughter filled every room, and she never hesitated to welcome those in need.

Ruth was “Nan” to many— cherished by her grandchildren: Richard, Blake, Nicole, Danielle, Micaella, Laura, James, Ashley, Cody (predeceased), Stephanie, Hunter, Mikayla, Kira, Joseph, and Ty. She was a proud great-grandmother to nine beautiful great-grandchildren, each of whom brought her tremendous joy. Her eyes would light up at the sound of little feet, and her laughter could always be heard in the background of family gatherings.

Later in life, Ruth reconnected with her Métis roots alongside some of her siblings, including Diane, Barb, Carol, and Jeanette. Together, they attended Pow Wows, celebrating their culture with pride, a reflection of Ruth’s lifelong spirit of connection, identity, and joy.

More than anything, Ruth lived for the people she loved. She laughed easily, gave generously, and loved without reservation. She taught her family to be kind, to be strong, and to always dance when the music plays.

She will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever in our hearts.
