In Loving Memory of Richard “Dinger” Bennett

May 9, 1950 – May 5, 2025

It is with full but heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Rick just days before his milestone 75th Birthday.

Beloved husband of Jane for 53 years, loving father to Carrie (Cameron), Barb (Dave). Special uncle to Karen (Randy). Proud grandfather of Taylor (Keegan), Hunter (Maddy) and Brooke. Loving great grandfather to Emory and Bo. Seeing the little ones always made him smile.

Rick is predeceased by his parents Eve and Joe Bennett and his siblings Caleb, Joanne, Donna, Reg and Tommy. He will be missed by his surviving siblings Art (Connie) and Maudie and remembered with love by his many nieces and nephews. Uncle Rick was a favourite!

Rick dedicated many years of his life working as a Linesman at Great Lakes Power, where his strong work ethic and reliability earned the respect of all who worked alongside him. Outside of work he was active in his community, playing/coaching hockey and baseball, and organizing fish derbies and tournaments. He loved being involved in the action.

Rick and Jane spent countless summers at Pow Wow Point (his happy place.) As an avid fisherman and hunter he loved the outdoors. Always up early tending the fire, he loved having his coffee and smokes, updating his log book and getting the sports updates. His outgoing personality and love of entertaining made him the perfect host to many! The door was always open.

He was at his happiest when he was amongst a big group of family and friends under the gazebo for “happy hour” passing around the “Gibbies” with Big Mike and his Little Buddy. Lou Lou and the family always had a special invitation. He created lasting memories and lifelong bonds with many in the close knit Montreal River Community, but enjoyed a special friendship with Mike and Kris Scherzer, his closest neighbours.

Rick will be remembered for his larger than life personality, his hugs, his love for his family and friends and his passion for life’s simple joys. His legacy lives on in stories we will continue to share for years to come and the love that surrounds us still. He will be deeply missed by Jane, his family and the many friends that he made over the years – always loved and never forgotten.

At Rick’s request a private Celebration of Life will be planned at a later date. Those who wish to make a donation in memory of Rick are invited to consider the Canadian FOP Network (www.cfopn.org)

HE WAS A HELLUVA GUY – SO RAISE A GLASS, REMEMBER THE GOOD TIMES AND SMILE!
