It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother Marie Joan Bertolo (nee Hewitt) on Saturday November 26, 2016 lovingly surrounded by her 6 daughters. Her beautiful life will be forever cherished through the lives of her children, Theresa, Anna, Cindy, Albert (predeceased 1976), Karen, Lisa & Natalie. She adored her 12 grandchildren, Jennifer Fergus-Gorman, Matthew, Jake and Rebecca Baker (Ferland), Michael, Justin and Robert Perreault, Ryan and Stephanie Hollos, Danika and Darcie Young and Meghan McAloney, along with 11 great grandchildren. Also survived by her sisters June Zuke and Sandra Dickson, her brothers David and Fred Hewitt and her dear brother-in-law Blair Tuckett. Also her numerous nieces and nephews that shared many happy memories and treasured moments with their Auntie Marie. Predeceased by her parents Helen and James Hewitt, her beloved son Albert Richard, her brothers James and Bill Dawson, Wayne Hewitt, her sisters Barbara Tuckett, Gerry and Lorraine Dawson and Doreen Gravelle. Marie was born on August 5, 1938 in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. She loved to reminisce and remember her favourite times at the Cherry Festival in Traverse City, blueberry picking, Sundays at the farm, picnics at Bellevue Park and Point du Chenes, our birthday parties, celebrating Christmas and playing Canasta on Saturday nights with the gang on Pentagon. She was passionate about her family and was most happiest with them out on the water fishing, ice skating in the winter, playing baseball and cooking. Her homemade pizza, lasagna and pies were legendary! Marie worked with great pride in the family business, Peachy’s Pizza Parlor (1969-1982) and was instrumental in developing the recipes and menu that continued when the family moved to Sudbury to open a 2nd restaurant and opening new locations and training the kitchen staff. She was known by many as “Peachy Marie”. Marie had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel. She will be remembered as witty, funny, strong , always told it like it was, sharp as a tack, with a spitfire personality. To know her was to love her. A Celebration of Marie’s Life will be held at Arthur Funeral Home & Cremation Centre on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 3 pm – 7 pm. Marie will be remembered at the Celebration of Mass at Precious Blood Cathedral on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 5 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Algoma Residential Community Hospice would be greatly appreciated. The family would like to graciously thank Dr. Kargbo, Dr. Booth and A.R.C.H. for their tender loving care of our Mommy during her final days. Special thank you to Marlene at Water Tower Inn for their compassionate services. Expressions of sympathy may be offered at www.arthurfuneralhome.com.
God Made you our Mom...Love made you my Friend.
