With immense love and profound sadness, we share the peaceful passing of Carmelita Boissoneau-Johnston.

At the age of 80, the heart of our family, the final light of her generation, the embodiment of love, strength, and unwavering kindness, embarked on her next journey.

Born to the late Joseph and Alvina Boissoneau. Carmelita lived a life rooted in compassion and selflessness.  Despite the many hardships she faced throughout her journey, she remained gentle in spirit and generous in heart. Her quiet strength and enduring grace served as a guiding force for all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Carmelita was a devoted wife to her best friend Brian for 45 years. A cherished mother to John (late Rhea), Joseph (late Ursula), her beloved son James (predeceased), Janine, and Suzanne. Proud grandmother of Samantha, Lisa, Rebecca, Janine, Jennifer (Tyler), Matthew (Shauna), Tracy, Johnny, Michael (Deanna), and Bradley. Great-grandmother to many beautiful grandchildren. Despite her pain in the end, she never failed to light up with the brightest smile while in their presence. Loving sister and now reunited with her siblings, Agnes (late Bob), Joseph (late Joyce), Gerry (late Bert), Margaret (late Raymond), and recently Andrew.

She gave endlessly of herself — not for recognition, but because helping was simply who she was. Grandma and Grandpa’s home was always open. Their table always had room for one more, and her heart had no limits. Their pantry was open to others in times of need, and she always took requests for home-cooked family birthday dinners, which were very regular in their home.

She was the safe place in a storm, the kind word in a time of sorrow, and the joyful laughter that lifted every gathering. Her wisdom was gentle, her faith unshakable, and her love unconditional.

As the last of her generation, Carmelita carried the stories, traditions, and strength of those who came before her. She now joins them in rest, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, compassion, and an unbreakable bond of love.

She will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family, and the countless lives she touched simply by being herself.

Though we feel the ache of her absence, we are forever grateful for the years we had with her — years filled with love, guidance, and the soft, steady light of her presence. Her spirit will continue to shine through every act of kindness we offer in her memory.

Rest in peace, sweet, sweet Grandma, you have given us more than we could ever repay.

May you now receive the peace and love you gave so freely to others.

Forever loved. Forever missed. Forever in our hearts.

Thank you to everyone who made her days bright and cared for her as if she were family. To the people who came and visited her in the hospital and home. To the team at the Davey Home Driftwood Beach 2, you are all truly Rockstars. We see you treating the residents as if they are your own. We see the endless care, compassion, and attention you bring to our loved ones.  We appreciate you more than you know.

Family and friends are welcome to join us in celebrating her life on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, at the Community Center (log house) in Garden River First Nation. We will have the final respects from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm, ceremony and feast to follow. Memorial donations to the Sault Ste. Marie Soup Kitchen would be greatly appreciated, or plant a flowering perennial for the bees. Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).
