With heavy hearts, the family of Lee-Ann announces the passing of our cherished daughter, sister, auntie and cousin at the age of 59.
Lee-Ann Alvena Bovingdon was born on September 22, 1965. Our healthy-never-been-sick sister was diagnosed with Uterine Carcinoma-Sarcoma. She fought the evil disease like a warrior, but on March 7th she was told that she lost the battle. She was told “it was only a matter of time. The cancer you have been fighting has spread”. Lee-Ann lost her battle on April 7, 2025. She passed away at ARCH Hospice surrounded by her family and close friends.
Lee-Ann was the cherished daughter of Gordie Bovingdon (late Gloria) and a loving and proud older sister of Shelly Nystedt (Mike), Tammy Bovingdon (Laverne Ross)(late Darren Wiwchar) and Jodi Clavier (Andrew).
Having no children of her own, Lee-Ann’s pride and joy and the lights of her life were her nieces and nephews. She was a devoted auntie to Ashleigh Wiwchar (Anthony), Mackenzie Nystedt, Kyle Clavier (Bri), Braydon Nystedt, Brett Nystedt, Kendall Clavier and the late Colby Clavier.
She will be greatly missed by all her dear friends, especially Mary-Alice Miller and Gerry Wilton. She will be missed by her many cousins near and far, her co-workers, and customers at Tim Horton’s John Street.
She was a crafty lady. Many people will tell you they own a piece of Lee-Ann’s work. She loved to knit and crochet and do plastic canvassing.
Lee-Ann was a bright and vibrant soul known for her compassion, infectious smile and unwavering kindness. She was always meek and shy. The quiet one. But cancer brought out her spirit. Since her diagnosis she had found a brighter self, a life worth sharing with others – which she did during the time she spent in the hospital.
Lee-Ann had a special way of making everyone around her feel seen and loved and her spirit will live on in the lives she touched. Her family and friends were everything to her and she will forever be remembered as a source of love, strength and inspiration.
As we say goodbye to our dear Lee-Ann, we take comfort in knowing that her legacy of love, kindness and selflessness will endure. She may no longer be with us in body, but her spirit will continue to live on in our hearts. If love could have saved you, you would have lived forever.
At Lee-Ann’s request, cremation has taken place at River’s Edge Cremation Centre, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
A Celebration of her life will be held at O’Sullivan Funeral Home (215 St. James St, SSM) on Thursday, April 17, 2025, from 5:30 pm until 8:00 pm. It will be a celebration of music and memories. Come happy and with a smile. That is what she would have wanted.
Memorial donations in Lee-Ann’s honour may be made to the SAHF Cancer Care Fund, Tracy’s Dream or ARCH (all payable online or by cheque) and would be appreciated by the family.
A special thanks to the staff of the Algoma District Cancer Program, Sault Area Hospital and ARCH.
Rest in peace dear Lee-Ann. You will be forever loved, missed and never forgotten!
