Prairie crocuses grow wild in our backyard. Mom used to say they followed her here. She was so proud to be a prairie girl and loved any reminder of it.
Patricia Brown passed away on Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Sault Area Hospital. She was born July 28, 1934 in Miami, Manitoba to David and Shirley Bingham and had a very happy childhood. She loved farm life, the outdoors, barn dances, baseball, and curling.
She married Thomas Brown in Carman, Manitoba on April 7, 1962, and then moved to Ontario that same year. They settled in the Sault and she dedicated herself to raising her family, no small task I can assure you, but she always said there wasn’t a dud in the bunch. She saw the best in us and helped us to see it too.
Mom loved a good game of crib, music, and was well known as the weather watcher of the family. She could give accurate updates no matter where you were calling from.
Her love of curling started out west and she continued to play for years after moving to Ontario. In her later years she spent many hours calling the shots from the living room watching every event that was televised. She never missed the broom. A highlight was having her picture taken with her favourite curler, Kevin Martin.
In these last few years, she had forgotten about curling and baseball and didn’t understand the TV. She was greatly comforted by favourite tunes and virtual family time. She had a big smile for everyone. That is something we can be thankful that dementia did not take from her.
Our "Manitoba" was a remarkable person and deserved every kindness that came her way. Many thanks to the excellent nurses at Bayshore that cared for mom at home and the many paramedics that literally helped lift her body and spirits. Her last days were mostly peaceful, and we are very thankful for the comforting care she received in hospital from an excellent team of health professionals including Dr. Yi, Dr. Apostle, Dr. Sharp and the wonderful nurses of 3B.
After too many sad days, she is finally free of confusion and pain and with any luck, playing a game or two of crib with dad.
Patricia will be lovingly remembered by her children Pamela, Robert, Shirley (Derek) and David (Saundra). Special friend and caregiver Shelley Behrens. Brothers Robert, and Ken (Diane) Bingham and their families. Her grandchildren Adam (Kelly), Jordan (Carley), Ryan, Dylan, Simon and great-grandchildren Hannah, Maddison, Brennen, Emily, and Eli will miss GiGi very much.
The family would like to thank Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel for their care and compassion.
