Proud mother of Julia Vercillo (Marco) and Miriam Burgess (friend Chris Coutu). Adored Nonna of Luca and another Grandson on the way. She is now reunited with her parents Gennaro and Giovina Farina. Cherished sister of Nella Tobia (John) and Patti Lippolis (Anthony). Daughter-in-law of Vera and the late Don Burgess. Sister-in-law of Ken (late Darlene), Nancy Peters (late Bert), Brian (Kathy) and Donna-Lee Sartor (Nello). She will be missed by her nieces and nephews Marta, Jonathan, Amanda, Tiana, James, Jill, Mitch, Nick, Hilary, Olivia, Noah and Eric. Maria will be fondly remembered and missed by her many aunts, uncles and close cousins who all meant so much to her. She cherished her friendship with her best friends Noreen Francescutti and Brien Proulx.
Maria taught for 37 years at St. Mary’s College, where she was more than just a teacher and colleague because SMC was an extension of her family. She was passionate about theatre and was heavily involved with Theatre SMC and community theatre. She enjoyed acting in and producing many shows in the city. Maria devoted many hours to Soo Sings for Kids and was very proud to be one of the originators in bringing this amazing event to life. She had a caring heart and was very generous with her time, participating in countless events and volunteering with many charities and community programs.
