It is with profound sadness that we share the news of the passing of Alfredo, peacefully at the Sault Area Hospital on Tuesday, November 12, 2024.
Alfredo was born August 14, 1930 in Serra d’Aiello, Italy. He lived a full and passionate life and while he may not have reached his goal of 153 years, we were blessed to have him with us for 94.
Alfredo had boundless love for his wife (Rosaria), his children Mario (Anne), Gaetano (Judy), Frank (Linda) and he was immensely proud of his grandchildren Julian, Cameron, Kayla, Fiona, and Vivian. There was never enough he could do for his family. And his family could never do enough for him.
Predeceased by his parents Pasquale Cappelli and Maria Rosa Meraglia and his siblings Adao Sdao (Nello), Lina Cutuli (Mimo), Salvatore Cappelli (Rosaria), Rosa Gabriele (Luigi), Maria Fascetti (Armando), Gaetano Cappelli (Filippina), Mario Cappelli (Norina), Valerio Cappelli and Fiore Cappelli (Fiorina). Brother- in-law of Gabriel Gaudio (Luisa), Pietruzza Posteraro (Giovanni) and Franca Provenzano (Luigi). He will be fondly remembered by his many nephews and nieces. What was also amazing was how Alfredo could remember everyone’s date of birth.
He was respected by those who worked with him, both his bosses and fellow tube millers. Alfredo would be quick to offer advice but never insist that it had to be followed. Whenever asked, he would be first to give a helping hand, never afraid to take a risk.
Alfredo loved his wine, music, garden, his salami and prosciutto, and loved doing his construction projects. He was a self-taught and talented mason, carpenter, dry-waller, plumber, basically a “jack of all trades”. After he retired, he turned his attention to the kitchen where you would often find him making bread, gnocchi, ravioli and pastas. Truly remarkable how adept he was with a hammer or with a spatula.
Above all, Alfredo was an avid storyteller. Whenever he had the chance, he loved nothing more than telling a good story. And, without exception, never a meal went by without a story from his childhood or from his adventures in Italy, France, and Canada. As he got up there in years, we heard many of the same stories but somehow the stories never got old.
Friends and family are invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Monday, November 18 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Funeral Service in the Chapel at 12:00 noon with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating. Entombment at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to the SAH Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
We would like to thank all the medical, nursing, and other health professionals who supported Alfredo during the last year and a half as many of the many PSWs from CBI. During the past year he also received caring support from Cecelia and Hardeep. Thank you also to Dr. Peter Maione and Dr. Mark Santana who provided many, many years of superb and kind medical and dental care.
Finally, a special and deep hearted thank you to our Zia Luisa, our cousin Lil, and my dad’s long time friend Luigi Runco who all spent countless hours helping our dad, Alfredo and our family.
He will be dearly missed but always in our thoughts.
