Surrounded by his beloved wife and children, Guido passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, at the age of 75.

A devoted husband for over 48 years, Guido’s love for Anna was unwavering. She was the center of his world. Guido was a loving and dedicated father to Filiberto “Bert” (Anne) and Julie Taylor (Dean). He led by example, instilling in his children the values of hard work, kindness, and integrity. He took immense pride in their accomplishments and found true joy in their happiness.

Perhaps Guido’s most cherished role was that of Nono. He embraced it wholeheartedly, treasuring every moment with his grandchildren: Cody (his beloved “mini me”), Claire (his in-house comedian), Quinn (his enthusiastic greeter), and Avery (affectionately known as “the little one”). He made it his mission to ensure each grandchild felt loved, important, and celebrated in all they did.

Guido was also a cherished brother and next-door neighbor for 48 years to Pat (Franca), a dependable brother-in-law to Ben (Lillian), Frank (Donna), and Pino (Diana), and a loving son-in-law to Emma Caputo and the late Alberto. He is reunited with his parents, Almerinda and Filiberto. Guido was a loving uncle and great-uncle to many nieces and nephews, each of whom held a special place in his heart.

Family was everything to Guido and there was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. Without hesitation, he would pack the car and drive eight hours to Southern Ontario, just to be there for his children and grandchildren.

In retirement, Guido and Anna enjoyed over a decade of winters in Florida, living the snowbird life. His favorite moments were always the family visits, especially from his grandchildren, who were never allowed to pay a cent. His own children, however, were humorously charged $1.98 a night.

A lifelong learner and avid reader, Guido had a deep curiosity about the world. His 39-year career as an Insect Tissue Culture Biologist with Forestry Canada was more than a profession, it was a passion. He took great pride in his work and built lasting friendships with many of his colleagues.

Guido was a dedicated community leader, known for his extensive volunteer work and public health advocacy. As Chairperson of the Algoma Public Health Unit, he played a pivotal role in advancing smoke-free initiatives across the region. His leadership was recognized with a Heather Crowe Award, honouring his contributions to local tobacco control efforts. Beyond public health, he was actively involved in cultural and healthcare organizations. He contributed to the Italian-Canadian community through his work with Club Calabrese and served on the Hospital Advisory Board, where he helped shape healthcare services in the Algoma District.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the dedicated caregivers at St. Mary’s Hospital in Kitchener, Guelph General Hospital, and the Cardiac Care Unit at St. Michael’s Hospital in Toronto, for their compassion and exceptional care.

Family and friends are warmly invited to visit at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Monday, June 9, 2025 from 10:00 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. A Memorial Mass will follow at St. Gregory’s Parish (71 Estelle Street) at 1:00 p.m. with Father Trevor Scarfone officiating. In accordance with Guido’s wishes, attendees are encouraged to wear attire that is both vibrant and comfortable.
