Henry Childs, age 77, passed away peacefully on Monday January 9, 2017, at Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa. He was born February 3, 1939, in Prince Township to Stanley and Beatrice (Odber) Childs. Henry, had many nicknames so you may have known him as Penny, Hank, or even Joe. Having been raised on a farm on Prince Township just west of Sault Ste. Marie, Henry knew the value of honesty and hard work. He displayed these values at many workplaces throughout his long career - the Heyden lumberyard, Algoma Steel, Soo Dairy, CN Railroad, Lyons Ready Mix, and eventually retiring after 20 years at the General Hospital in the Soo. He couldn't sit still after retirement and spent several summers working at Pine Portage Lodge north of Wawa; several years maintaining Camp Wakonda; and several years volunteering at the Sault Area Hospital. Henry was a man of faith, and spent many years attending and supporting Bethel Bible Chapel in Sault Ste. Marie. Henry married Gloria Fuselli on July 12, 1958, in Sault Ste. Marie, and was an amazing father to 7 children throughout their 55 years together. He is survived by his sister Rene (Dave) Daynard, as well as his 7 children: Gord (Dianne), Colleen Johnson, Philip, John (Val), James (Caryn), Joseph (Arlene), Jason (Jennifer). Grandfather to Daniel, Joshua, Timothy (Nicole), Shannon, Christopher, Cory (Mythily), Melissa, Benjamin, Michael, Emma, Sarah, Trevor (Jessica), Caleb, Angela Jo, Kendra, Alex, Erin, Josiah and Rachel. Great Grandfather to Bryasha and Breanna. Uncle and friend of many. Henry was predeceased by his wife Gloria, Sisters Joyce (Arnie) Lukala and Joan (Maurice) Daynard; Brothers Jack (Betty) and Bob (Elsie). At Henry's request there will be no funeral. Instead, he would like family, friends, and all others whose lives he touched to attend a Celebration of Life at Prince Township Community Centre, 3042 Second Line West, Prince Township, from 3 p.m.-7 p.m. on Friday, January 20 to reminisce, grieve, support each other and, of course, just chat. Special thanks to all of the nurses and doctors on the 5th floor Palliative Unit at Elisabeth Bruyere Hospital in Ottawa. Donations to the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada at braintumour.ca or to the Elisabeth Bruyere Foundation at bruyere.org are appreciated.
