1938 - 2025. It is with deep sorrow that we announced the passing of Edward Allen Cottingham, beloved husband, brother, uncle, and friend, on Thursday, May 8, 2025.

Edward, known affectionately as Ed, was born in 1938 to Robert and Ruth Cottingham. He was a cherished member of a large and loving family. Ed was the devoted husband of Lynda Lemay, who resides at the Ontario Finnish Resthome. He was a pillar of strength and support for his family.

Ed was preceded in death by his siblings Norma Elizabeth (Betty), Robert (Bob), William John (Bill), and George. He is survived by his sister Edith Ann (Ann), who, along with Ed, is the last of their siblings. The extended Cottingham family includes many nieces, nephews, and grandchildren.

Ed's life was marked by his trustworthiness and deep family bonds. He had a special place in his heart for his dogs, Winston, Salem, and later Clancy, who brought him great joy. Ed loved spending time at Gros Cap, golfing, enjoying winters in Florida, and savoring a good cigar. He was known for his personable nature and flirtatious charm. Lynda was his greatest treasure, and he cherished every moment spent with her. Proud of his Irish heritage, Ed worked as a Maintenance Supervisor at the York Region Board of Education.

Ed's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, especially his sister Ann and George's wife Brenda. He will also be fondly remembered by his best friends, Richard and Jane Culverwell, and his wife's family: her sister Lois Krause (Bruce), her brothers Larry Lemay (Jackie) and Leslie Lemay (Kim). Leslie's care, with help from Lois, Jocelyn, Maria, Sherwin, and many others, for Ed and Lynda over the past seven years, including five years at the Ontario Finnish Resthome, was deeply appreciated.

A Private memorial service will be held at a future date to honor Ed's life and legacy. In lieu of flowers, donations (payable by cheque or online) can be made to Ontario Finnish Resthome Association would be appreciated. Arrangements entrusted to the Arthur Funeral Home – Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522).
