Born November 1948 and passed away on Friday, March 7, 2025 at The Sault Area Hospital due to lengthy illness.
David was born in Sault Ste Marie to Arthur and Edith Court (nee Cruttenden.) David attended high school in the Sault.
He ran off with his wife Karin Doleske in a van and headed for San Francisco in 1968. They’d heard a song and took it literally. Following travels across Canada the US, they both resided in Toronto. After working with the National Trust Company, he attended and graduated from Toronto’s Ryerson University with a degree in Social Services in 1972.
Following his graduation, he worked for the Ministry of Community and Social Services. In December 1972, he was hired as a frontline caseworker for the Algoma District Welfare Administration Board (now the Algoma District Services Administration Board). During his time there he progressed from Caseworker to Supervisor to Director of the Welfare Program. In 1999, he was selected as the CAO of the new Algoma District Services Administration Board which manages Ontario Works, Child Care, Social Housing and Emergency Medical Service in District municipalities. He retired in December 2007, after 35 years with the Board.
Following his work with the Algoma Board he formed David Court Consulting. During the next four years he did work for the Timiskaming District, Manitoulin Sudbury District and Sault Ste Marie Districts.
David and his wife Karin had no children but raised and schooled two Dachshunds… Henry and Henrietta.
He and Karin were avid canoers than kayakers. In his retirement he enjoyed making Mosaic artwork. He also made traditional rugs and he particularly enjoyed his wonderful group of traditional rug hookers.
David and Karin traveled the world: China, Taiwan, Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Australia, New Zealand, Egypt, Turkey, Greece, every European country, the United Kingdom, Bolivia, Peru, Brazil, Argentina, Antarctica, Mexico, every Canadian Province, every US state but always returning to their beloved Canada and especially Northern Ontario.
“And at the end of all our travelling, We will arrive where we started, And know the place for the first time.” ~T.S. Eliot
David is survived by his dear, patient and loving wife of 58 years Karin (nee Doleske). Also, his sister Rosemary, and brothers Stephen, Gordon, Jim. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Nancy.
Just before he died he repeatedly asked Karin to please give thanks to all the people he knew, loved and worked with him. David says: ”Thanks so much for our times together!”
Per his wishes, David would like you to please buy some Prosecco, raise your glass and wish him Happy Trails. Inurnment to take place at St. Luke's Columbarium.
