Our family and friends lost a beautiful, funny, brave soul on February 26, 2024, in her 76th year in Victoria, BC., where she lived in a Retirement Home near her daughter, Tee Kay. Marj could light up a room with her smile and laugh. Her belly laughs (to tears!) were especially famous and contagious. She loved to dance, dress well, and play Bingo!

Marj was born in Fitch Bay, Quebec, on December 3, 1948 to Lyle and Kay (Kathleen) Woods. Marj was the eldest of seven siblings and her family eventually settled in the Elora area where she met her first husband, Larry Gummerson. After they parted ways, she met the love of her life, Roy Dankert (deceased December 15, 2005) and they never looked back.

Marj and Roy raised their three children in and around Guelph, living life with gusto, humour, and always managed to get through the really tough times that came their way. Marj was feisty; approaching life head-on and yet still had the warmth and caring to come to love the multitude of animals (that Roy brought home) that she would discover in the home she worked so hard to keep spotless.

Marj’s funny phone messages and her unique way with words kept us all laughing. You couldn’t ask for a more loyal and passionate person in your life.

She is survived by her children, Lyle Gummerson (Jill Cameron), Teressa Kathleen, known fondly as Tee Kay, and Melissa Dankert. Also survived by her grandchildren Bradley (Kaitlyn), Kristopher, Katie, Ethan, Emma, Taylor, Lucas, and her many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Marj will be missed by her much-loved siblings Andy (Carol), Lew, deceased, (Trudy), Cyrus, deceased, (Marilyn), Malcolm (Anne), Ross, deceased, (Leah) (Kim), and Ivy (Steve, deceased), and their families.

Marjorie is also very much missed by Roy’s family, (Roy's birth father, George Dankert passed away when Roy was 10 days old), his late parents, Patrick Fitzpatrick and Edna Fitzpatrick (Illerbrun, Dankert,), siblings Wayne Wissler (Barb), Susan Philp (Jim), Connie Stoneburgh (James), Ron Fitzpatrick (Deborah Crispin), Alan (Irene), and sister-in-law Alexandra Madden. Also missed and loved by many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews.

The family have decided to have a private Celebration of Life for Marjorie.
