We are saddened to announce the passing of our beloved mother, wife, daughter, sister, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, Carmela. Affectionately known as Lina and Nonni, Carmela passed away at the Villa Forum Long Term Care Residence in Mississauga, Ontario on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 at the age of 95.
Born on March 15, 1930 in Chieti, Italy, Carmela moved to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario in 1952 to begin her new life with soon to be husband, the late Alfonso DiRenzo.
Mom is survived by her loving children: Nick (Mary), Mary (Mike), Emily (Joe). Nonni will be greatly missed by her cherished grandchildren: Michael and Jacqueline, Jamie and Leah, Alex and Kate, Matthew, Nicole and Caroline and Thomas. She will also be missed by her great grandchildren: James, Hannah, Easton and Gavin.
Carmela was the daughter of the late Giuseppe and the late Assunta Adorante. Sister of Emma DiBerardino (Tony), Gabriel Adorante (Anna) and Ada Adorante (Douglas). Daughter-in-law of the late Nicola and the late Camila DiRenzo. Sister-in-law of Silvio DiRenzo (Assunta), Blanche Dilabio (Tony) and Rocco DiRenzo (Linda). Zia to her many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to visit in Oakville, Ontario at the Oakview Funeral Home (56 Lakeshore Rd West) on Friday, May 23, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., followed by prayers. Details and live streaming of the service can be seen at www.oakviewfuneral.ca
An additional Visitation will be held in Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, at Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758) on Tuesday, May 27, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. with entombment to follow at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery Mausoleum. Memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated by the family.
Carmela’s family extends its gratitude to the staff at Villa Forum Long Term Care Residence for its loving care over the last several years, and to caregiver, Judith Akinyi who provided her with tender peace and comfort during her final days. We know that God has a special place in heaven for Mom, where she can be reunited with her loving husband and other family members to rest in eternal happiness.
