Dale passed away peacefully at the Algoma Residential Community Hospice on Sunday, January 5th, 2025 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Very proud father of Mark (Katrina) and Randy, supportive Grandpa of Camryn and Gavin. He looked forward to attending their hockey games whenever he could, it brought him joy to watch them play the game they love.
The much loved big brother of Jane Batenchuk, brother-in-law of Ron, always good friends. He was the son of the late James B. Entwistle and Rena B. Entwistle (St. Amand). Uncle Dale will be greatly missed by Steven, Jennifer Hambly (Dave), Madison, Hudson, Hannah and Jovi. Dale will be remembered fondly by all of his caring cousins and his dear Aunt Joyce.
At the age of 16 Dale joined the navy, he enjoyed his time as an Aircraft Handler on the HMCS Bonaventure, traveling to many places. He was a proud member of The Royal Canadian Legion. After leaving the navy, he worked at Algoma Steel in the Cold Mill until his retirement. He loved to walk and was known to many people, he and his big white dog Buddy logged countless miles together. After moving to Pathways he continued walking. Despite his health challenges, you couldn't keep him down.
Dale was a Soo Greyhound Season Ticket holder for 35+ years and we are sure that he will be missed around the rink.
Thank you to his many friends, Leo Bertolo, who was like a brother to him, they grew up together, travelled together, and as fate would have it, Leo was present when Dale passed away. To his friends John Stutt, Gerry Aikens, George Hunt, Terry Barbeau, Dennis Pyette, Gary and Jean Taylor and his many other friends, his golfing buddies and his caring neighbours on Bellevue Avenue, thank you. Your visits and the delicious treats you brought him meant a lot not only to him but to us, his family too.
Dale was the kindest, most thoughtful man, he would do anything for anyone and help anyone that crossed his path. He will be remembered and missed by all who knew him. Our pets and all of his canine friends that he would meet on his daily walks will miss the treats that he always carried in his pocket.
Dale never failed to say "Thank you", no matter what you did for him, big or small, even after everything he went through during his hospital stays, there was always a thank you and usually a thumbs up. So we, his family, say "Thank you" to everyone for everything you did for him.
Thank you to the kind and supportive Third Floor and ICU staff at the Sault Area Hospital, and to the doctors and nurses involved in his care. Also a thank you to the staff and volunteers at ARCH, the end of Dale's journey was peaceful, not only for him but also for the family who loved him, "There truly are angels among us."
As per Dale's wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no service or visitation.
Arrangements entrusted to Arthur Funeral Home - Barton & Kiteley Chapel (492 Wellington Street East 705-759-2522). Memorial contributions made payable online or by cheque to ARCH or the Sault Ste Marie Humane Society would be greatly appreciated. Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.arthurfuneralhome.com for the Entwistle family.
