January 16, 1947 – June 2, 2025
Our hearts are broken as we say goodbye to a true legend.
Dennis “Denny” Fleming passed away peacefully on June 2nd, with his beloved wife Sharon holding his hand. He was surrounded by family and friends, with the sounds of Kris Kristofferson, Merle Haggard, and Willie Nelson playing softly in the background — his favourites.
Denny leaves behind his devoted wife of 58 years, Sharon (née Jackson). She was his soulmate, best friend, and the love of his life.
He was the proud father and best friend to Allison, Trevor (Maria), and Stacey (Mark). He was a deeply proud Grandpa to Ryan (Jade), Ben (Laura), Tanner (Kayla), Jack (Kylie), and his “Little Miss” Emily (Gavin). His grandchildren were his whole heart — he loved them beyond words and was immensely proud of each of them.
Denny was the son of the late Jessie and Don Fleming. Beloved brother to Linda Smith-Bemrose (Warren), Janet Mason (Russ), Mary Wilson (Bob), and the late Sandra Mitchell. He was a cherished brother-in-law to Bruce Mitchell and the late Fred Smith. He was also the son-in-law of the late Yvonne and Gordy Jackson, and brother-in-law to the late Danny, Keith, and Terry Jackson.
He was known as “Crusher” at the Paper Mill, where he worked for many years and built lifelong friendships. Denny and Bob Wilson (aka “Willie”) shared many laughs — and good times “lighting it up” after long shifts at the Mill. His friendship with Tom Odber, especially their time “fishing” at Tay Lake, was filled with unforgettable stories (though we all know not much fishing got done!).
Over the years, our home became a second home to many — “adopted” sons and daughters like Wade Varcoe, Tina Humphries (Brent), and Sherri Mousseau (Mark). Erica Becking (Travis), you were a special part of his life. He always considered you his third daughter, and your care during his final days will never be forgotten. You will always be family.
Denny had an adventurous spirit and spent weeks on end in the bush looking for the “Big Find”. He was a prospector alongside my brother. Together they searched the North looking for Gold!! Trevor has so many wonderful memories of his time out there with “The Old Man”. He will carry those in his heart forever.
To Stacey and Ally, he was "Big Crusher" — our rock, our protector, our greatest cheerleader. He was always there, in every way, for every moment, big or small.
He adored his son-in-law and daughter-in-law. Mark shared many summers painting with Dad, creating a bond that was truly special. From the moment he met Maria, he loved her as his own daughter.
Denny's love for his grandchildren was boundless — they were the light of his life. To our mom, he was her world. After 58 years together, their love never wavered. They shared countless adventures and built a life full of love and laughter.
We were blessed beyond measure to call him husband, Dad, and Gramps. He was strong, steady, and quietly powerful — a man of deep integrity, humility, and love. His world was simple but full of purpose: his family, his home, and his dog, Oliver. He never asked for more.
At every crossroad, in every difficult moment, he was there. Always.
He showed us how to live with heart, how to stand tall, and how to love fiercely. His legacy is woven into each of us, and though we’re unsure how to begin without him, we know we’ll carry him with us — always.
We love you. Rest easy.
“I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith”
The family would like to thank the ICU at SAH for the care he received during his final days. Especially his Nurse Jamie, who was there when he passed. Dr. Defabio for allowing him to pass painlessly and with integrity, and finally Erica for being there throughout his final journey.
Please join us on Saturday, June 14th for a celebration of Life “Denny Style”. It is to be held at 55 Killarney Road (Stacey & Marks). It is a tribute to who he was so wear your best plaid shirt, tee shirt (with a pocket), Jeans or a ball cap and come out to celebrate the “Legend” and who he was. Celebration begins at 2 PM.
