The local fish populations will be happy to hear that Leonard has passed away, surrounded by family on Monday, February 10th, at the age of 78. He is now at peace and reunited with his love, Wendy, who has been impatiently waiting with her “honey do” list.

Cherished father of Joel, Jeff, Josh (Sarah), Jerah (Danny), and Jordan (Ayako). Proud Grandfather of Julian and Jordan. Predeceased by his parents George and Emma Fresque. Dear Brother of Mary (late Ron), Henry, and the late Johnny.

Such a unique character and a truly genuine guy, often funny without realizing it and even funnier when he tried.

Lenny was an avid fisherman, pool shark, elite troll and professional maker of the best butter tarts. A connoisseur of tearjerker Country and Western songs - Hank Williams wailing "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" and Sammi Smith's sultry "Help Me Make It Through The Night."

In his younger years he frequented the Vic (he had his own private key for the side door) and often shared fond memories of those fast times. He excelled at almost any athletic endeavour he attempted, particularly basketball. Len was so casual and effortless when he played, it seemed he had a newspaper tucked under his arm. In high school he scored a perfect 21/21 at the annual Track and Field Day at SCI, and was the only competitor ever known to accomplish that feat over the seven events. He was the only guy we ever knew who could punt a football with his left foot (he was right-handed) - try it sometime. He loved watching and critiquing his kids' athletic endeavours and helping coach their basketball teams. Len was a pain in the ass as a coach for the refs when he helped coach his son, Jordan. He cherished his time with his family at the camps at Lonely Lake and Batchawana Bay. Stubborn as a mule, seemingly a grouch, a curmudgeon as he got older, but secretly, deep down, a marshmallow with a heart of gold.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Arrangements entrusted to Northwood Funeral Home Cremation and Reception Centre (942 Great Northern Rd, 705-945-7758). Memorial donations made to ARCH would be appreciated by the family. A special thanks to his lifelong friend, Dr. Peter Chow.

Thankfully, Lenny died with more memories than dreams. Leonard’s family is looking to collect some of those memories. If you have a story or photo that you would like to share, please add to the following link: bit.ly/lenfresque
